A day in the unspoiled nature of a green sanctuary
The Sasseto wood is one of the few pristine environments in the whole of central Italy, home to a wide variety of ancient trees, rare flowers, and wild animals.
From the small medieval town of Torre Alfina we’ll descend through this lush wood, along panoramic winding paths lined less than a century ago by Marquis Edoardo Cahen, inside a lush forest home to a wide variety of monumental trees, moss-covered rocks, windy magical paths.
The tracks lead to the heart of the enchanted forest, where elves and fairies are believed to hide… to reach, eventually, to a decadent neogothic mausoleum in the center of a large clearing. Here, surrounded by awe-inspiring oaks, ancient hollies, and luxuriant hornbeams, the marquis still rests.
We’ll hike one of the lesser-traveled trails, but one that offers some of the most impressive scenery in the Park.
