The steep valley of the River Fiora boasts a few rupestrian hermitages, carved out of the rock centuries of years ago. These small houses and churches were created by hermit monks who fled from the towns and found refuge in the middle of the woods, living on what nature would give them. They left behind only those shrines, so deeply hidden in the woods that – then and now – are revealed only to those who know where to look for.
